This half term...
We will begin by reading the story Blue John by Berlie Doherty and will look closely at how the story develops and how the characters change throughout the story. We will begin looking at key reading skills and how we can use these to become advanced readers.
In maths, we will be learning about numbers to 1000. We we represent them, partition them and learn how to plot them on a number line. Following that, we will use this knowledge to begin learning written methods for addition and subtraction. This link will show you what we will be learning over the next few weeks - https://assets.whiteroseeducation.com/new-schemes/Y3%20Autumn%20Block%201%20SOL%20Place%20value.pdf
In writing we will be focusing on narratives based on the book 'The Egyptian Princess'. We will focus on describing characters and settings and how to make plots interesting. We will also look at Autumn poetry and how we can use descriptive language to hook readers in.
In science, we will work as geologists to explore different types of rocks, their properties and how they are formed. We will investigate the different strengths of rocks and compare them using new scientific vocabulary
In history, our focus will be Ancient Egypt. We will travel back in time to discover how their civilisation was formed, how they grew in numbers and how they thrived all those years ago. We will ask the questions - Why were Egyptians so intelligent? How did they build the pyramids?
In PE we will be learning all about games that involve attack and defense. We will work towards improving our skills in this by listening and looking at each other, using different team games and a range of different apparatus to help us become better team players.
We will begin looking at cursive handwriting this term and how we form letters differently. This will support us in the small steps needed to begin joining our handwriting.
